Scarlet to White

Greetings from New Horizon Church!

The snow is lying heavy on the ground as we write these words. And this causes us to think of a passage from the Bible: "Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow . . . (Isaiah 1:18)." Sins like scarlet. But someday, white as snow.

Perhaps you have never thought of your life in this way. Perhaps you have never thought at all about sin. Sin is one thing that every single human being shares in common with every other human being. As the Bible says: "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." And, again, "There is none righteous, no not one!"

So, fellow sinner, how is it with you and your sin? Oh, you would rather not think about it? Well, one day the Great Judge shall cause you to realize and understand just exactly what He thinks about it. Yes, we all do share in the sinful nature, every one of us is a sinner. But, there are two kinds of people who are sinners. There are those of whom the Prophet Isaiah speaks, those whose sins shall be white as snow and there are those whose sins are bright crimson red and shall stay that way.

You say you don't believe in the Bible nor do you believe in the God of the Bible? Fair enough. But what if there is a God? What if you are wrong? Are you really willing to risk your eternal life to such a weak position of doubt? "Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow . . ."

Dear fellow sinner, let us tell you about this scarlet coloured sin that you and I possess. It is the colour of blood, this sin. Blood-red, scarlet. Why is it that the Bible describes sin in this way? Is it not because what is called sin is really death? Sin is like a slow-but-sure bleeding wound which will not heal and will not cease its weeping of blood until life is gone.

"What is sin" you ask? Ah, you know, though you may think that you can hide this knowledge even from yourself. Sin is rebellion against God. Sin is refusal to come to God through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Sin is disobeying God's Law, you know, the 10 commandments which we have joked about for so long. Sin is failing to be God's faithful servant. This is sin. And this is the bloody-red description of that from which you are slowly but surely dying.

You may have noticed the title of this little pamphlet you are reading: "Good News from Cornerstone." Yes, we do have Good News for you. It is what that prophet said: "Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be white as snow . . ." The white, clean snow covers over a lot of dirt. So it is with another Blood that the Bible tells us about. It is the sacrificial Blood that Jesus Christ shed on the Cross of Calvary nearly 2000 years ago. That is what may make you clean. Jesus' Blood will not stop you from sinning, but His Blood will, if you will but trust Him and follow Him, completely wash away all of the guilt of your sin.

Oh, fellow-sinner, we call upon you now in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to repent of your sinful life and sinning. This means that you turn away from that life of sin which you have been living. And, we call upon you to come in faith and trust and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. We call upon you to come to a Church where Jesus is worshiped in Truth, according to the teaching of the Bible. Hear in that place the Good News that "Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be white as snow. . ." Receive the cleansing which Jesus' Blood alone can give you. We stand ready to help you in this new journey of faith. Won't you come and join us for worship any Sunday at 1:30 P.M.?
